JOB DESCRIPTION
The Barista at Café Paso Coffee is responsible for delivering an exceptional café experience for all guests. This role involves embodying SYC’s values and adapting to a dynamic, community-focused coffee shop environment. The Barista will report to the Café Manager, supporting daily operations, guest service, and quality control.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Customer Service and Professional Conduct
- Exemplify and promote the café’s mission and values to guests and staff, demonstrating professionalism and positivity.
- Set a professional, positive example in all interactions and situations.
- Communicate with calmness, clarity, and confidence to ensure effective team interactions and guest service.
- Proactively welcome guests and SYC staff, offering support with orders to create a positive experience.
Operational Duties
- Maintain knowledge of and execute all café checklists and procedures.
- Follow opening procedures, including unlocking doors, setting the alarm, preparing the cash drawer, and powering on equipment.
- Attend to; and if necessary, alert supervisor of facility needs.
- Prepare bar drinks and line food menu items, including espresso, lemonades, breakfast options, and other café items.
- Prepare ingredients for bar drinks and line food items, including syrups, sauces, meats, and other essentials.
- Perform and manage daily and weekly cleaning tasks, including lobby checks, dishwashing, and floor cleaning.
- Execute closing procedures, including locking doors, setting the alarm, reconciling the cash drawer, and powering off equipment.
- Operate the café independently when the Café Manager is off-site, ensuring all procedures are followed and guests receive consistent service.
Team Collaboration and Communication
- Receive coaching and feedback from both the Café Manager and SYC leadership staff to continuously improve performance.
- Adhere to and enforce all café policies, creating a consistent and welcoming environment.
- Report directly to the Café Manager with openness and transparency regarding any store or team matters.
- Manage time and tasks efficiently, maintaining productivity and focus during each shift.
Product and Quality Control
- Ensure consistency in store appearance, guest interaction, and quality of product service.
- Handle cash accurately and with integrity, upholding store policies.
- Practice FIFO (First In, First Out) for inventory, ensuring quality control and proper stock rotation.
REQUIREMENTS
- Demonstrate punctuality and reliability, consistently arriving on time for scheduled shifts.
- Adhere to all youth center AND café policies, including those regarding dress code, behavior, youth code of conduct and service standards.
- Maintain a flexible schedule based on café needs, including weekends.
- Minimum 1 year of customer service experience (required).
- Minimum 1 year of coffee or fast-paced food service experience (required).
SCHEDULE
- Full Time $20/Hour
- 4-5 days per week
- Sunday and Monday Availability Needed
- Occasional special events (advanced notice will be provided)
