Woodlands Market, Marin and San Francisco's premier gourmet grocery store, has an opening for a Bakery & Coffee bar Supervisor!

Reporting to the Food Services leadership team, the Bakery/Coffee bar Supervisor is primarily responsible for managing all aspects of the front-of-house service counters for both the coffee bar and bakery. This role blends active, hands-on customer service with merchandising, light bakery production, and team direction. The Supervisor ensures that all cross-trained Food Service Team Members deliver exceptional beverage and pastry quality, maintain strict sanitation standards, and uphold a warm, welcoming environment for customers.

Key Responsibilities

Cafe & Bakery Operations (BOH/Prep)

  • Perform basic bakery duties including baking off cookies and bread, cutting cakes, and writing names on cakes.
  • Make and ensure that all team members prepare coffee and espresso beverages to standardized methodologies and to complete customer satisfaction.
  • Maintain an active maintenance log and oversee the daily functionality and cleanliness of all coffee bar machinery (espresso machine, brewers, grinders, blenders, and refrigeration units).
  • Oversee ordering and inventory for the service counters using movement reports to maximize sales while actively reducing waste.

Merchandising & Customer Service (FOH)

  • Maintain products in the vicinity of the bakery/coffee counters (such as bread, cookies, and other baked goods), ensuring they are stocked, faced, clean, and fresh at all times.
  • Ensure visual merchandising meets high standards and execute proper product rotation (FIFO), actively pulling subpar and/or expired product from the cases.
  • Provide and model an effective—positive, amicable, upbeat, and "smile first"—customer service orientation. Answer customer questions, select products, and package items with care.

Team Direction & Shift Leadership

  • Under general direction, coordinate, train, and supervise Food Service Team Members in the successful completion of their duties at the bakery and coffee counters.
  • Ensure efficiencies are utilized between the coffee and bakery counters, directing cross-trained staff during peak customer demand.
  • Train employees to provide exceptional customer service, deep product knowledge, and strict service standards.
  • Perform periodic employee performance evaluations and check in with staff frequently in a supportive, constructive manner.

Food Safety & Compliance

  • Ensure strict sanitation protocols are followed at all times.
  • Maintain the cleanliness of the bakery/coffee retail area, ice cream machine (if applicable) , and in-store seating space in the immediate proximity of the service counters.
  • Observe and execute all opening and closing procedures, checking in with department leadership at the beginning and end of the shift.

Required Skills

  • Excellent verbal, interpersonal, and customer service skills.
  • Demonstrated experience preparing coffee/espresso drinks and operating commercial cafe equipment.
  • Ability to prioritize work, handle multiple concurrent tasks, and delegate effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Physical ability to lift objects up to 20 pounds on a regular basis, stand or walk for more than 4 hours per day, bend and squat frequently, and work in changing temperatures (in and out of walk-ins)
  • Minimum of 1 to 2 years of customer service experience in a lead, supervisory, or managerial role.
  • Comprehensive understanding of coffee preparation and bakery merchandising.
