The Press Hotel in Portland, Maine, newly owned and managed by EOS Hospitality, is seeking an AM Barista to join their team of hospitality professionals at Inkwell cafe.

Job Summary

  • Greet hotel guests and walk-in customers warmly, providing a welcoming first impression of both the café and the boutique hotel.
  • Prepare and serve a variety of specialty coffee beverages, including espresso-based drinks, drip coffee, cold brew, and seasonal offerings.
  • Prepare tea beverages, including hot teas, iced teas, tea lattes, and specialty tea drinks according to established recipes.
  • Accurately take customer orders, process payments, and operate the point-of-sale (POS) system.
  • Recommend menu items, answer questions about ingredients, and provide knowledgeable suggestions based on guest preferences.
  • Serve and package grab-and-go food items such as baked goods, parfaits, sandwiches, snacks, and bottled beverages.
  • Monitor product freshness, rotate stock, and ensure food items are attractively displayed and properly labeled.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the café, including counters, equipment, seating areas, condiment stations, and display cases.
  • Follow food safety, sanitation, and health department regulations in the handling, preparation, and storage of food and beverages.
  • Restock coffee beans, tea supplies, cups, lids, napkins, food items, and other café inventory throughout each shift.
  • Operate and maintain café equipment, including espresso machines, coffee brewers, grinders, refrigerators, and dishwashing equipment.
  • Collaborate with hotel front desk and hospitality staff to provide seamless guest service and assist with guest inquiries when appropriate.
  • Handle customer concerns or service issues professionally and escalate matters when necessary.
  • Assist with opening and closing duties, including cash reconciliation, cleaning procedures, inventory checks, and equipment setup/shutdown.
  • Support the overall guest experience by maintaining a polished, professional appearance and delivering exceptional hospitality consistent with boutique hotel service standards.

Key Skills & Requirements

  • High school diploma
  • Strong customer service and hospitality skills with a friendly, professional demeanor.
  • Prior café/barista experience not required. Knowledge of espresso preparation, milk steaming, or beverage presentation as plus
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for interacting with hotel guests and café customers.
  • Cash handling and point-of-sale (POS) system proficiency
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize during busy service periods while maintaining hospitality
  • Strong attention to detail when preparing orders and maintaining food safety standards.
  • Reliability, punctuality, and a strong work ethic.
