Barista

Finn Hollow is a new coffee shop and sauna/wellness concept in East St. Paul inspired by Finnish culture and a belief in the importance of community, nature, creativity, and human connection.

We're building a neighborhood place where someone can stop in for an excellent cup of coffee, meet a friend, discover something new, or simply feel welcome. The coffee shop will complement Finn Hollow's sauna and wellness experiences and will feature locally roasted coffee, Finnish-inspired food and beverages, and a warm, distinctive atmosphere.

We're now building our opening coffee shop team and are looking for people who would be excited to help shape the culture of Finn Hollow from the beginning.

We are hiring at several levels of experience: Baristas, Shift Leads, and a senior Coffee Shop Team Lead. You don't need to be a coffee expert to apply for a barista position. Paid training will be provided, and we're interested in finding people who bring warmth, reliability, curiosity, and a genuine desire to create a great experience for others.

As a member of the Finn Hollow Coffee Shop team, you'll:

• Welcome customers and create a warm, friendly, and inclusive experience 
• Prepare and serve espresso drinks, coffee, tea, pastries, and other coffee shop items 
• Learn about our coffee and products and help customers find things they'll enjoy 
• Operate the point-of-sale system and accurately handle transactions 
• Maintain clean, organized, and inviting coffee shop and customer areas 
• Restock products and supplies and help monitor inventory 
• Follow food-safety, sanitation, and coffee shop operating procedures 
• Work collaboratively with coworkers and pitch in where needed 
• Arrive for work punctually and reliably
• Be part of a team that is focused on learning, improving, and creating the kind of neighborhood gathering place people want to return to
• Perform other duties as assigned

In addition to regular coffee shop responsibilities, Shift Leads will support smooth operation of the coffee shop during assigned shifts. Responsibilities may include 

• Opening and closing procedures
• Supporting and coaching team members
• Handling cash and operational issues
• Maintaining service and quality standards
• Making sure the coffee shop runs smoothly

Our senior Coffee Shop Team Lead will take on additional people and operational leadership responsibilities. In addition to working alongside coffee shop staff serving customers and performing day-to-day tasks, the Lead will 

• Assist with training and onboarding employees
• Coordinate staffing and scheduling needs, 
• Support employee communication and performance 
• Maintain operating standards 
• Assist with inventory management and product selection
• Work closely with ownership to continually improve coffee shop operations and the employee experience.

Our ideal candidate is:

• Interested in coffee, hospitality, Finnish culture, wellness, creativity, community—or simply the idea of helping create a special neighborhood place 
• Available for some mornings, weekends, and/or other shifts based on business needs 

Previous coffee shop, restaurant, retail, or hospitality experience is helpful but not required for all barista positions. Previous leadership experience is preferred for Shift Lead and Coffee Shop Team Lead candidates.

Positions are part-time, approximately 16-20 hours per week.

Compensation will depend upon experience and level of responsibility:

• Barista: $18/hour 
• Shift Lead: $22/hour 
• Coffee Shop Team Lead: $26/hour 

Eligible employees may also receive tips in addition to their hourly wage.

This position involves working in an active coffee shop environment. Team members must be able to perform the essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation. These include:

• Standing and moving throughout the coffee shop for extended periods during a shift 
• Frequently reaching, bending, twisting, and using hands to prepare beverages, handle food, operate equipment, and clean work areas 
• Safely lifting, carrying, pushing, or moving items weighing up to approximately 30 pounds 
• Occasionally moving heavier items with assistance 
• Working around hot beverages, ovens, and other commercial coffee shop equipment 
• Performing routine cleaning and sanitation tasks 
• Communicating effectively with customers and coworkers in an active and sometimes busy environment
