Role Description The Barista is a part-time, on-site role located in Yorba Linda, CA, responsible for preparing and serving coffee, tea, and other beverages in a welcoming and respectful manner. Day-to-day tasks include taking orders, preparing drinks to standard recipes, operating café equipment, handling payments, and maintaining a clean, organized service area. The Barista will monitor inventory, restock supplies, and follow all food safety and hygiene guidelines. This role also involves greeting guests warmly, answering basic questions about menu items, and supporting a calm, courteous atmosphere that aligns with the values of the Islamic Center. The Barista may assist with light food preparation, support events, and collaborate with staff and volunteers as needed.

Qualifications

  • Experience in beverage preparation, including basic coffee and tea drink making, with the ability to learn and follow standardized recipes.
  • Customer service skills, including clear communication, active listening, and a friendly, professional approach to guests of diverse backgrounds.
  • Basic cash handling and point-of-sale (POS) experience, with attention to accuracy in processing payments and managing receipts.
  • Knowledge of or willingness to learn food safety, sanitation practices, and proper use and cleaning of café equipment.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods, lift and carry supplies as needed, and maintain a neat, organized work area.
  • Strong time-management and multitasking abilities to handle busy periods while maintaining quality and courteous service.
  • Respect for the values, customs, and practices of an Islamic nonprofit religious organization, including maintaining a modest, professional demeanor.
  • Previous barista, café, or food service experience is preferred but not required; willingness to learn and follow guidance is essential.
