The Role

As a member of the Cafe Crew, you will craft the coffee, matcha, functional elixirs, and restorative bites that fuel the Grotto experience, ensuring every guest feels welcomed and nourished.

This is a fully cross-trained role. Every team member masters both beverage craft and food preparation, fostering a flexible and supportive environment where everyone is ready to assist wherever the rhythm of the day requires.

Your shift might move from mixing a matcha to plating a fresh snack, greeting a member by name, or helping a teammate during a post-sauna rush. While every day varies, the mission remains constant: creating a social hub where guests feel comfortable lingering and connecting.

The Cafe Crew reports to the General Manager or the Manager on Duty, working closely with the full front-of-house team.

Core Responsibilities

Guest Services

  • Welcome every guest to Grotto with warmth, presence, and genuine attention
  • Recognize our members and remember their usual orders whenever possible
  • Act as a guide through the menu, offering thoughtful recommendations based on guest needs
  • Anticipate needs proactively: refill water, clear tables, and check in on those relaxing after a circuit
  • Foster a relaxed, inviting atmosphere that encourages social connection and lingering

Product Execution

  • Prepare all menu offerings coffee, matcha, juices, and light bites to Grotto’s high standards
  • Follow recipes and presentation guidelines with consistency and care
  • Stay deeply knowledgeable about ingredients, functional benefits, and dietary considerations
  • Maintain exceptional quality and attention to detail, even during peak service hours
  • Suggest pairings and help guests discover new restorative favorites

Bar Maintenance

  • Ensure cafe workstations are spotless, organized, and guest-ready at all times
  • Clean equipment, wash dishes, and restock service supplies proactively throughout the shift
  • Receive and organize inventory deliveries, ensuring proper stock rotation and storage
  • Monitor freshness, minimize waste, and communicate inventory needs to management
  • Support opening and closing procedures to set the entire team up for success

Team Collaboration

  • Maintain a team-first attitude, jumping in to help wherever support is needed
  • Communicate effectively with Hosts, Guides, and Housekeeping for a seamless guest flow
  • Participate in shift huddles to stay informed about VIPs, events, and operational goals
  • Contribute fresh ideas to improve the cafe environment and the overall guest experience

Qualifications

Required

  • 1–3 years of experience in a cafe, restaurant, or hospitality-forward environment
  • Proficiency in crafting coffee and beverages alongside light food preparation
  • Strong interpersonal skills; comfortable engaging with guests in a relaxed setting
  • Solid understanding of food safety, sanitation, and allergen awareness
  • Ability to work efficiently and maintain composure during fast-paced service
  • Physical stamina to stand for 6–8 hours and lift up to 30 pounds
  • Availability for early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holiday shifts
  • Fluency in English required; Spanish proficiency is a strong plus for Miami
  • Food Handlers License
  • CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain)

Preferred

  • Experience with specialty espresso, matcha, and fresh juice preparation
  • Current Food Handler’s certification (or willingness to obtain one before start)
  • Familiarity with Square or similar POS systems
  • A genuine interest in wellness culture and the craft of hospitality
