George Howell Coffee is seeking baristas and cashiers to work at our Lyrik Cafe on Newbury Street
Currently we have three Boston locations - Boston Public Market, Godfrey Hotel, and our newest Cafe on Newbury Street in the Lyrik building.
George Howell Coffee offers an exciting workspace where aspiring or experienced baristas can begin or develop their journey in specialty, third wave coffee. We are an established name in our industry, locally owned and operated, and in addition to our amazing coffee specialize in highlighting locally procured treats to delight our guests!
We are looking for Experienced Cashiers / Baristas with the ability to serve coffee and espresso beverages in a consistent manner and according to recipes. Successful candidates must have the ability to provide quality customer service and demonstrate a knowledge of coffee products, brew methods, equipment, and tea products. Responsible for serving all products with friendly, individualized attention toward each guest. Experience with cashier duties or willingness to learn.
CORE TASKS
In the Cashier role, the employee must be able to explain the menu and be well-versed in the products available
Ensure guests are warmly received and welcomed and engaged in sincere and friendly conversation.
Respond to questions/orders/concerns in a professional manner.
Anticipate guest and store needs by constantly evaluating the environment and customers for clues.
Facilitate easy dialogue regarding product offerings with customers.
Actively participate in training sessions to advance your coffee education.
Craft beverages that adhere to the company's quality standards.
Communicate effectively with guests and co-workers
Respond proactively to prevent negative guest service situations.
Accurately ring sales orders into POS system and counts back change to the guests in a courteous and friendly manner.
Restock retail shelves when necessary.
Routinely clean the bar area (do not forget the steam wand), retail shelving, floors, windows, and grinders; vacuum, and take out the trash.

Skilled at latte art or willing to learn
Skilled at identifying and describing flavor notes or willing to develop palate
Skilled at making in-the-moment adjustments to highlight the finest notes of our espresso, or willing to learn
Passionate about developing knowledge of new beverage processes or excited to learn
Able to engage guests to meet or help develop their enthusiasm for our products
Abilities
Contagious energy that sets a positive example for other employees.
Maintain a calm demeanor during periods of high volume.
Self-motivated, learns quickly, and multitasks efficiently.
Maintain punctual and consistent attendance.
Physical Characteristics (Physical attributes required with or without a reasonable accommodation)
Maintain stationary (e.g., standing) for extended periods of time frequently and be on your feet for up to 8 hours per shift
Move around the café throughout the day assisting staff and customers, as well as performing shift responsibilities constantly
Move and lift supplies, equipment, boxes, and other items up to 50 pounds from the floor to shelves, under the counter, and up a set of stairs frequently
Shift position in multiple directions to work all stations in the kitchen and behind the counter in the front of the house
Reach items under counter and overhead on shelves frequently
Tolerate exposure to cleaning solutions frequently

Indoor fast-paced café setting
Credentials/Experience (Minimum Level Of Education, Experience, And Certifications)
Experience as a barista or cashier in fast casual dining for 1+ years
Ability to serve coffee and espresso beverages in a consistent manner according to recipes
Other Requirements (Items that do not fit other categories such as travel, weekends, nights, etc.)
Weekends required - minimum one weekend date availability
Compensation including hourly rate plus TIPS in the $25 per hour range.
