As a roastery-independent service provider, Thunderbird can work on most makes and models of commercial brewing equipment. Team members bring experience from across the coffee industry, including barista work, café management, equipment repair, and customer service. Role Description The Coffee Equipment Technician is a full-time, on-site role based in Phoenix, AZ. This role is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining commercial espresso machines, brewers, grinders, and water filtration systems at customer locations and in the workshop. Day-to-day tasks include performing scheduled preventive maintenance, responding to service calls, installing and calibrating equipment, and documenting work performed in service records. The technician will communicate clearly with café owners and staff, explain findings and recommended repairs, and ensure equipment is safe, clean, and operating to manufacturer specifications. The role also includes managing parts inventory, following safety protocols, and collaborating with the team to improve service processes and customer experience.

Qualifications

  • Technical skills in mechanical and electrical troubleshooting, basic plumbing, and safe use of hand and power tools.
  • Experience with commercial coffee equipment, including espresso machines, grinders, brewers, and water filtration systems.
  • Strong customer service, communication, and interpersonal skills for working directly with café staff and management.
  • Organizational skills for managing service schedules, documenting repairs, and maintaining parts and tools inventory.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, wiring diagrams, and manufacturer specifications.
  • Comfort working in café environments, including standing for extended periods and lifting equipment as needed.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation for on-site service visits within the Phoenix area.
  • Previous experience as a technician, barista, or in the coffee industry is highly beneficial.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; vocational or technical training in a related field is a plus.
