Position Overview

The Director, Channel Growth & Portfolio Execution is responsible for driving profitable growth across strategic retail, Coffee Service, and emerging channels by leading portfolio execution, channel readiness, and insights-informed commercial planning. This role translates enterprise, brand, and portfolio priorities into actionable channel plans that support customer growth, product performance, and commercial effectiveness.

This position serves as a key commercial leader between Marketing, Sales, Insights, Finance, Supply Chain, Operations, and customer-facing teams. The Director will lead a team responsible for retail portfolio execution and Coffee Service execution support, ensuring portfolio initiatives are commercially sound, operationally ready, and aligned to channel and customer needs.

The role is designed to strengthen portfolio discipline, improve channel execution, and support profitable growth across priority customers and channels, including Dollar, specialty grocery, Coffee Service, and other strategic growth opportunities.

Key Responsibilities

Channel Growth Strategy

  • Lead channel growth strategies across strategic, emerging, and high-opportunity areas, including Dollar, specialty grocery, Coffee Service, and other priority growth channels.
  • Define and advance growth opportunities across channels, customers, and product portfolios to support revenue, share, profitability, and long-term commercial priorities.
  • Translate enterprise, brand, and portfolio priorities into channel-specific growth plans in partnership with Sales, Marketing, Insights, and Finance leadership.
  • Shape growth strategies by identifying opportunities to optimize product mix, pricing, placement, promotion, merchandising, and customer activation.
  • Evaluate channel performance, customer trends, shopper behavior, consumer needs, and competitive activity to inform commercial recommendations and business decisions.
  • Establish scalable approaches for channel growth planning, ensuring priorities are actionable, measurable, and aligned to broader commercial objectives.

Portfolio Execution & Channel Readiness

  • Lead the team responsible for translating portfolio and innovation strategies into commercially ready execution plans, sales tools, merchandising support, and customer activation resources.
  • Oversee portfolio execution across retail and Coffee Service channels to ensure initiatives align with customer needs, channel dynamics, operational requirements, and business priorities.
  • Direct commercial readiness for product launches, product renovations, packaging updates, equipment programs, POS materials, merchandising assets, and field activation needs.
  • Establish standards for portfolio execution, sales enablement, merchandising support, launch readiness, and channel-specific activation.
  • Guide portfolio execution decisions by aligning product mix, price-pack architecture, POS strategy, customer activation needs, and field execution requirements.
  • Ensure portfolio initiatives are supported by clear execution plans, operational readiness, sales-facing tools, and cross-functional alignment.
  • Advance retail and Coffee Service portfolio execution by identifying opportunities to improve customer relevance, field readiness, product performance, and commercial effectiveness.
  • Evaluate portfolio performance, customer feedback, execution readiness, and in-market results to identify opportunities for improvement, renovation, rationalization, or expansion.

Retail Portfolio Leadership

  • Provide strategic direction for retail portfolio execution, ensuring product strategies are commercially sound, operationally executable, and aligned to retail customer and channel dynamics.
  • Guide price-pack architecture, portfolio mix, lifecycle management, POS strategy, retail activation, and margin optimization efforts across retail channels.
  • Evaluate retail portfolio performance, including velocity, profitability, customer needs, shopper behavior, and channel productivity.
  • Influence portfolio decisions related to product renovations, SKU rationalization, new pack opportunities, retail standards, and in-market activation.
  • Strengthen alignment between Marketing, Sales, RGM/Finance, Insights, and Supply Chain to ensure retail portfolio decisions support both growth and profitability.

Coffee Service Execution Leadership

  • Oversee Coffee Service portfolio execution, including product and equipment program readiness, merchandising support, customer activation tools, and field execution resources.
  • Guide the translation of Coffee Service portfolio strategies into practical tools, materials, and resources for Sales Execution and customer-facing teams.
  • Ensure Coffee Service product launches, equipment initiatives, pilot programs, and limited launches are supported with clear execution requirements and readiness milestones.
  • Strengthen coordination across Sales, Marketing, Supply Chain, Equipment, Operations, and external vendors to support effective Coffee Service execution.
  • Evaluate execution feedback, program readiness, and customer activation needs to improve future Coffee Service initiatives.

Insights Integration & Business Decision Support

  • Lead the integration of customer, consumer, shopper, channel, and performance insights into channel growth strategies and portfolio execution plans.
  • Convert insights into practical recommendations that inform account planning, channel strategies, innovation priorities, portfolio decisions, and commercial execution.
  • Leverage data and insights to identify growth opportunities, diagnose performance gaps, evaluate portfolio effectiveness, and guide actionable solutions.
  • Strengthen visibility to trends, risks, customer needs, and channel opportunities to support more informed commercial decision-making.
  • Influence cross-functional business decisions by ensuring channel and portfolio strategies are grounded in performance, customer needs, consumer behavior, and market realities.

Account Growth & Cross-Functional Execution

  • Lead growth planning support for strategic accounts and channels where focused portfolio and execution leadership is needed to accelerate performance.
  • Guide account owners and sales leaders in strengthening customer-specific strategies, particularly in high-growth or evolving channels.
  • Identify and prioritize opportunities to expand distribution, improve product mix, optimize promotional support, strengthen merchandising, and improve customer engagement.
  • Orchestrate cross-functional execution to ensure growth plans are actionable and supported by the right commercial, operational, financial, and analytical inputs.
  • Provide leadership and structure for cross-functional work that requires coordination across multiple teams and business priorities.

Leadership & Culture

  • Lead, coach, and develop a team responsible for retail portfolio execution, Coffee Service execution support, and insights-connected business planning.
  • Set clear priorities, expectations, and accountability for direct reports while ensuring work is aligned to commercial goals and enterprise priorities.
  • Build team capability in portfolio execution, channel planning, business analysis, stakeholder management, commercial readiness, and execution discipline.
  • Foster a collaborative, solutions-oriented environment that supports clarity, ownership, accountability, and cross-functional effectiveness.

Position Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in business, marketing, sales, finance, analytics, supply chain, or a related field required.
  • Minimum of 15 years of progressive commercial experience in sales, commercial planning, portfolio management, category management, shopper insights, revenue growth management, business strategy, retail execution, Coffee Service, or related commercial functions required.
  • Minimum of 10 years of leadership experience required, including experience leading, coaching, and developing direct reports.
  • Experience leading portfolio execution, channel growth strategies, customer growth planning, commercial readiness, or go-to-market execution activities required.
  • Experience in consumer-packaged goods, retail, food and beverage, foodservice, or a related industry strongly preferred.
  • Experience supporting or leading growth strategies across retail grocery, Dollar, specialty retail, Coffee Service, foodservice, or emerging channels preferred.
  • Strong understanding of portfolio management, retail execution, price-pack architecture, merchandising support, product lifecycle management, sales enablement, and customer activation preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate customer, consumer, channel, financial, and operational insights into actionable growth strategies.
  • Strong business acumen with the ability to evaluate opportunities, diagnose performance gaps, and influence commercial decisions.
  • Strong cross-functional leadership skills, including the ability to align priorities, manage stakeholders, resolve barriers, and drive execution through others.
  • Ability to operate at both a strategic and hands-on level in a fast-paced, evolving commercial environment.
  • Strong communication, influence, and stakeholder management skills with the ability to align teams across functions.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office required; experience with syndicated data, customer data, trade planning tools, financial reporting, or business intelligence platforms preferred.
