Director of Cafe Operations

Swing’s Coffee Roasters is hiring a full-time Director of Cafe Operations and Training. This role is responsible for the development and success of our Cafe team that includes three retail locations and over twenty employees. An ideal candidate will pull from prior management and coffee experience to lead a team of professional baristas to fulfill our mission to share quality specialty coffee with the greater DC area.

The Cafe Director will lead our existing team of coffeebar employees, as well as hire, train and develop new hires into an efficient professional barista team. The Director will be expected to combine Swing's strengths as a specialty coffee roaster with an approachable, customer-service oriented culture within our busy coffeebars. Training wholesale partners and facilitating the integration of the roasting and sales teams are integral responsibilities as well.

Swing's Coffee Roasters is an old-school coffee roaster with a progressive approach toward all things coffee. Located in the Washington DC area, Swing's is a wholesale coffee roaster operating retail coffee bars in DC and Alexandria, VA. We are a dedicated team of coffee professionals who embrace coffee culture and appreciate the path that was forged by others to get us here. The cornerstone of this position is a love of coffee and of a job well done.

Duties:

• Upholding Swings Coffee Roasters’ professional standards across all retail locations
• Hiring,training and developing excellent candidates within our cafes
• Balancing P&Ls for our retail locations with our cafe management teams
• Developing and modifying our menu selection and pricing to encourage growth
• Working with the cafe teams to develop strategies towards generating revenue
• Evaluating cafe manager performance and implementing training for managers
• Communicating coffee knowledge and information between the roasting, sales and cafes
• Updating, facilitating and leading training for all baristas
• Leading coffee training for wholesale clients

Requirements:

• Advanced and unpretentious coffee skills: dialing in espresso, latte etc.
• Management experience
• Serv safe or similar food safety manager qualification
• Ability to efficiently travel to each of Swing’s cafe locations or client sites on a daily basis
• Capacity to lift objects up to 50lbs and stand for full espresso bar shifts
