Location: Salt Lake City, UT (On-site)
Position Type: Full-Time
Reports To: Founder/Owner
Leavity is a neighborhood bakery and café built on intention, craftsmanship, and community. We specialize in naturally leavened sourdough, thoughtfully sourced ingredients, and specialty coffee served with genuine hospitality. We're three years into our journey and entering an exciting stage of growth.
We're looking for an entrepreneurial Director of Operations who wants to shape the future of a company with significant growth potential. In this role, you will enjoy deep autonomy and true ownership as you build businesses, solve complex problems, and create scalable systems. This isn't just a management job; it's a unique opportunity to partner closely with the founder to scale our operations thoughtfully. If you are a self-starter energized by the challenge of growing something special, we want to hear from you.
As Director of Operations, you will serve as the operational leader of the business, partnering closely with ownership to execute our vision while creating the systems, processes, and team needed for our next stage of growth. You will oversee day-to-day operations while also driving strategic projects, improving efficiency, and helping us scale thoughtfully without losing what makes Leavity unique. We are looking for someone who doesn't wait to be told what to do—someone who sees opportunities, develops solutions, and follows through.
- Operations & Leadership: Lead daily café and bakery operations, ensuring exceptional customer experiences, product consistency, and hospitality standards. Create, document, and refine standard operating procedures (SOPs) to maximize workflow and efficiency.
- Team Development: Recruit, hire, onboard, and coach a high-performance team. Establish balanced routines, clear accountability, and structured scheduling that support both staff needs and business success.
- Business Growth & Projects: Lead high-impact strategic initiatives and expansion projects with minimal oversight, carefully evaluating capacity, revenue potential, and scaling opportunities.
- Administrative & Financial Management: Partner with ownership on budgeting, cost management, and inventory. Manage critical vendor relationships and track key business metrics to provide regular, proactive status updates.
- Experience: Proven operational leadership experience in hospitality, restaurants, cafés, bakeries, or food service (baking/cooking experience is not required).
- Execution & Drive: A self-starter with critical follow-through who takes ownership of projects from concept to completion.
- Problem-Solving Mindset: A calm, measured approach to handling daily operational challenges with a focus on solutions.
- Communication: Highly efficient, compelling, and effective communication skills for leading both leadership and staff meetings. CEO and Director meetings must have time limits. Director and Staff meetings or one-on-ones must be effective
- Strategic & Tactical Balance: Ability to manage daily fast-paced priorities (inventory, customer engagement, payroll) while maintaining an eye on long-term business strategy.
Bonus Qualifications
- Experience helping a small business scale.
- Background in HR, recruiting, project management, or marketing/PR.
- Light accounting, bookkeeping, or financial management experience.
- Salary Range: $50K-$60K / annual (depending on experience)
- Retirement: 401(k) retirement plan (3.5% company match and 1% increase each year up to 10%)
- Health Benefits: Dental and Vision Insurance coverage
We’re looking for a leader who values craftsmanship and quality, cares deeply about creating great customer experiences, and has an entrepreneurial mindset. You should enjoy building systems, welcome growth and change, and want to contribute to a responsible business that serves its community.
This is an opportunity to have a meaningful impact on a growing company at a pivotal stage. You'll work directly with ownership, help shape the future of the business, and play a key role in building an organization that can grow while staying true to its values.
