Goldchild Coffee Roasters is a boutique specialty coffee roaster and cafe located in downtown San Diego. We focus on high-end, lightly roasted single-origin coffees and a service style rooted in intentional hospitality, education, and precision.

Goldchild operates at the highest levels of specialty coffee. Our team competes in national and international coffee competitions, earning national victories and global recognition. The cafe reflects that same level of care, precision, and professionalism in daily service.

We are looking for someone who takes pride in their work, enjoys fast-paced service, and is excited about developing their skills in specialty coffee.


Pay
• Starting at $18/hour + tips (entry level)
• Starting at $20/hour + tips (experienced)

Tips are shared among the team and currently average $350+ every two weeks after the split.

Position Overview

Coffee Professionals at Goldchild work as part of a structured service system designed to deliver speed, quality, and hospitality during busy service periods.

Typical service roles include:

• Guided order taking and significant guest interaction, hospitality & customer service engagement
• Retail coffee equipment sales
• Espresso extraction
• Drink preparation (milk steaming, syrups, drink building)
• Pour-over preparation and batch brew service
• Running drinks and supporting service flow
• Maintaining a clean and organized coffee bar
• Restocking and daily cafe prep
• Dish service and FOH/BOH cleaning

During peak service hours our team works in coordinated roles that allow orders to be produced efficiently while maintaining the highest quality standards.

Our Coffee Program

Goldchild focuses on high-end specialty coffee and competition-level brewing standards. The coffees we serve are:

• Lightly roasted to highlight clarity and sweetness
• Primarily single-origin coffees scoring 85+ points
• Designed to perform across espresso and manual brewing methods

Our team regularly participates in coffee competitions and events both nationally and internationally. The cafe reflects this approach with precise brewing techniques, consistent dialing-in, and a strong focus on education. This leads to a demanding but supportive environment centered around professional growth and industry recognition.

Ideal Candidate

We are looking for someone who:

• Is reliable and punctual
• Works well in a fast-paced service environment
• Communicates clearly and works well within a team
• Is genuinely interested in specialty coffee
• Takes pride in quality and consistency
• Enjoys engaging with guests and creating memorable experiences

Barista experience is preferred but not required for entry-level candidates who demonstrate strong hospitality instincts and a willingness to learn quickly.

Schedule

Full-time availability is required.

Typical cafe hours are 7:00 AM – 4:00 PM. Opening and Closing shift availability is required.

Weekend availability is essential and required as a condition of employment.

* You will be required to lift, bend, squat, and stand on your feet throughout a full-shift. Must be able to adequately lift 30lbs above your head.
