Morning Cafe Manager

Brief Description

The Morning Cafe Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of Cymbals Cafe, ensuring an exceptional guest experience while maintaining operational excellence across all aspects of the business.

This role serves as the face of the cafe each morning, balancing leadership, hospitality, and hands-on execution. The Morning Cafe Manager will lead the team through service, manage scheduling and inventory, oversee ordering and facility standards, and foster a welcoming environment for guests and staff alike.

Working closely with Sister Ship and the broader Faraway Nantucket team, this individual will help create a seamless hospitality experience across both concepts while ensuring Cymbals remains a beloved destination for locals and visitors.

Primary Responsibilities

OPERATIONS & SERVICE LEADERSHIP

• Oversee the daily operation of the cafe, ensuring efficient and consistent service execution.
• Manage the floor, ticket flow, and guest traffic throughout each shift.
• Lead by example as a working manager, supporting service wherever needed.
• Ensure all opening, operational, and closing procedures are completed to standard.
• Monitor POS activity, cash handling, and daily reporting requirements.

TEAM LEADERSHIP & SCHEDULING

• Create and manage weekly schedules to ensure appropriate staffing levels.
• Coordinate shift coverage and communicate schedule changes effectively.
• Anticipate staffing needs during peak periods, weekends, holidays, and special events.
• Foster a positive, collaborative culture rooted in hospitality and accountability.
• Support onboarding and ongoing development of cafe team members.
  
  

INVENTORY & PURCHASING

• Conduct regular inventory counts for food, beverage, coffee, and operational supplies.
• Manage coffee ordering and maintain appropriate inventory levels.
• Manage alcohol inventory and safe pouring culture on property (adhere to ABCC)
• Monitor product freshness, quality, rotation, and waste management.
• Maintain organized storage areas and ensure products are properly labeled and stored.
• Partner with leadership to identify efficiencies and control costs.
  
  

Guest Experience

• Serve as the primary ambassador and host for Cymbals Cafe.
• Build meaningful relationships with regular guests and local community members.
• Create memorable first impressions for visitors and hotel guests.
• Address guest feedback and service recovery situations with professionalism and care.
• Support reservation inquiries and guest communications related to Sister Ship.
  
  

FACILITY & BRAND STANDARDS

• Maintain the cleanliness, organization, and presentation of all guest-facing areas.
• Ensure indoor and outdoor seating areas remain welcoming throughout service.
• Oversee restocking of service stations, condiment areas, and guest amenities.
• Identify maintenance needs and communicate facility concerns promptly.
• Uphold the visual and hospitality standards of the Faraway and Collared Martin brands.
  
  

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS

• 2+ years of experience in restaurant, cafe, or hospitality management.
• Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
• Experience with scheduling, inventory management, and purchasing.
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, guest-facing environment.
• Passion for hospitality and creating memorable guest experiences.
• Specialty coffee knowledge preferred; enthusiasm for coffee culture required.
• Reliable, proactive, and solutions-oriented.
• Comfortable working mornings, weekends, and holidays as business demands require.
