Test Kitchen Associate – Coffee Specialist (Part-time)
Breville is seeking a technically minded and consumer-focused Test Kitchen Associate – Coffee Specialist to help shape the future of coffee innovation
.This role blends coffee expertise, disciplined testing, and deep consumer empathy. The ideal candidate is passionate about coffee and precision, yet grounded enough to evaluate products from the perspective of all coffee drinkers. Whether testing an entry-level espresso machine or a high-end prosumer model, you’ll bring a balance of analytical rigor and consumer insight—ensuring each product delivers excellence for its intended audience
.You’ll work hands-on with prototype equipment, run tests using Breville’s proprietary software tools, analyze performance data, and collaborate with global teams to refine product designs that resonate with coffee lovers everywhere—from novices to professionals

Key Responsibilitie
- Execute and adhere to testing protocols: Follow established testing procedures precisely to ensure reliable, repeatable results across experiments
- Use data-driven tools and software: Operate Breville’s in-house BETA testing platform to connect machines via Bluetooth, run performance scripts, and make controlled adjustments
- Evaluate products with empathy: Test through the lens of the target consumer—balancing professional expertise with understanding of varied skill levels and preferences
- Analyze results and provide actionable insights: Combine sensory evaluation with quantitative data to validate performance and inform product improvements
- Operate lab and measurement equipment: Use thermocouples, Scace devices, refractometers, graduated cylinders, and related tools to collect and interpret data accurately
- Collaborate globally: Work with Breville’s international development kitchens to align on testing protocols, ensuring consistency and shared standards
- Represent North American consumers: Provide input on regional coffee trends, preferences, and brewing techniques to support global product developments
- Document and communicate results: Create clear and concise reports, testing summaries, and consumer-facing instructional materials
- Maintain the test kitchen: Ensure the space is organized, calibrated, and ready for daily testing and experimentation
Qualifications & Experience
- Accredited degree in culinary arts, coffee science, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
- 2+ years of hands-on experience in coffee preparation, testing, or product R&D (specialty coffee environment preferred). Barista and/or coffee roasting experience is a strong plus
- Deep understanding of coffee brewing techniques, equipment, and third-wave coffee culture, combined with appreciation for all levels of coffee consumers
- Proven ability to follow standardized testing procedures with accuracy and consistency
- Comfort with technology and data tools, including connecting devices, running Bluetooth-based programs, and reading basic scripts
- Experience using lab instruments (thermocouples, refractometers, Scace, graduated cylinders, etc).
- Strong communication and technical writing skills, especially for test documentation or consumer materials
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and basic data analysis tools. Proficiency in Confluence and Jira is a plus
