Be part of a dynamic team where culture, community, and hospitality come together. As a Visitor Experience Café Associate, you’ll play an essential role in creating a welcoming and enjoyable café experience for guests visiting the International African American Museum.
Job Summary
The Visitor Experience Café Associate supports the daily operations of the IAAM café by preparing and serving specialty beverages and light food offerings while delivering exceptional customer service. This role ensures the café remains clean, well-stocked, and inviting for all guests.

Key Responsibilities
- Welcome guests with a friendly and professional demeanor
- Take and prepare food and beverage orders accurately and efficiently
- Craft hot and cold beverages, including specialty coffee and tea
- Serve pastries, desserts, and café items inspired by Southern flavors
- Operate the POS system and handle cash and card transactions
- Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary café environment
- Stock and replenish food, beverages, and supplies as needed
- Monitor inventory levels and communicate restocking needs
- Ensure proper food safety, sanitation, and equipment standards
- Clear tables and maintain customer service areas
- Support museum operations and assist other departments when needed
- Follow all IAAM policies, procedures, and service standards
Qualifications & Experience
- Previous barista or food service experience preferred
- Strong customer service and communication skills
- Ability to multitask and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
- Experience with POS systems and handling payments preferred
- Basic math and problem-solving skills
- Ability to follow food safety and sanitation guidelines
- Dependable with reliable transportation
- Team-oriented with a positive, service-focused attitude
- ServSafe certification is a plus
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand for extended periods
- Comfortable working in a busy, fast-paced environment
- Ability to lift and move items up to 25 pounds
- Flexibility to work varied schedules, including weekends and special events
