At Merit Coffee, team members receive an hourly base pay, which is the guaranteed amount earned for each hour worked. In addition to base pay, employees participate in a tip pool, where tips from customers are combined and distributed among eligible team members based on the hours they work.

For our Austin cafés, the current base pay is $10.00 per hour. Team members also receive an average tip rate of approximately $9.00 per hour through the shared tip pool. This means that while the $10.00 base pay is guaranteed, the average total hourly earnings typically come out to around $19.00 per hour when tips are included. The exact tip rate may vary slightly depending on factors such as café traffic, seasonality, and overall customer tipping.

This structure allows team members to earn a reliable hourly wage while also benefiting from the success of the café and the generosity of our customers.
