Position Overview:

The Barista is responsible for preparing and serving a variety of coffee beverages, teas, and other drinks to customers in a café, coffee shop, or similar establishment. They create a welcoming and friendly atmosphere while providing excellent customer service and ensuring the quality and consistency of beverages.

Essential Job Functions:

Customer Service:

Greet customers warmly and take their orders with a friendly demeanor.

Provide recommendations on coffee blends, brewing methods, and specialty drinks.

Engage with customers in a polite and professional manner, addressing any questions or concerns they may have.

Beverage Preparation:

Prepare and serve a variety of coffee-based drinks, including espresso, cappuccino, latte, and macchiato, according to established recipes and standards.

Operate espresso machines, coffee grinders, and other equipment safely and efficiently.

Ensure the quality and consistency of beverages by following proper brewing techniques and standards.

Food Preparation and Presentation:

Prepare and serve light food items such as pastries, sandwiches, and snacks.

Maintain cleanliness and organization of the food preparation area, including display cases and refrigerators.

Ensure that food items are presented attractively and packaged appropriately for customers.

Cash Handling and Sales:

Handle cash, credit card transactions, and POS systems accurately and efficiently.

Process orders promptly and provide customers with correct change or receipts.

Upsell additional items such as baked goods or specialty drinks to enhance sales and customer satisfaction.

Cleaning and Maintenance:

Clean and sanitize coffee machines, countertops, utensils, and other equipment regularly.

Monitor inventory levels of coffee beans, syrups, milk, and other supplies and restock as needed.

Maintain cleanliness and orderliness of the café or coffee shop, including seating areas and restrooms.

Teamwork and Collaboration:

Work collaboratively with other team members, including baristas, servers, and kitchen staff, to ensure smooth operations.

Communicate effectively with colleagues and supervisors to coordinate tasks and provide support as needed.

Assist with training and mentoring new baristas on beverage preparation techniques, customer service standards, and company policies.
