Fallingwater, a property entrusted to the Western Pennsylvania Conservancy, designated as a National Historic Landmark and inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List, is seeking a full-time Café Manager, to manage the Baristas and daily operations of the Fallingwater Café. The person in this position reports directly to the Executive Chef.
Duties And Responsibilities (Essential Or Marginal)
Works directly with the Executive Chef in all aspects of running a food service operation including, inventorying, organizing, and cleaning.
Carries out management responsibilities in accordance with the Western Pennsylvania Conservancy’s policies, programs and procedures. These responsibilities include staff development; providing advice and guidance on the more complex aspects of the job; and resolving complaints or related divisional issues.
Hires and supervises Café staff, ensuring the highest standards of professionalism, hospitality, customer service, and quality.
Trains new hires and existing staff on café policies and procedures, including training on the espresso machine, general compliance with food service regulations, and overall Café cleaning and maintenance.
Evaluates food and beverages being prepared to ensure that quality standards are consistently met.
Oversees general Café cleaning and maintenance to ensure aesthetic standards are maintained.
Always provides exceptional and welcoming customer service, and exhibit professionalism in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
Assists with resolving and satisfying customer concerns in order to provide an exceptional visitor experience.
Crafts and serves espresso beverages that meet the established quality and presentation standards. Follow recipes, serving seizes, and maintain consistency.
Prepares the front-of-house for daily operations, including stocking, organizing, and maintaining service areas.
Maintains the Fallingwater Café’s grab and go and merchandise offerings, which includes restocking and upholding presentation standards.
Opens and closes the Cafe according to established procedures. Ensures readiness for service, and completes end of shift cleaning and closing duties.
Operates the POS system, processes transactions, and properly applies gift cards, vouchers, and applicable discounts for guests, volunteers, and employees.
Follows policies and procedures for cash handling and balances in POS system.
Monitors Café inventory levels and communicates restocking needs to supervisors.
Maintains cleanliness and organization of all Fallingwater Cafe spaces, equipment, and storage areas throughout the shift.
Follows all food safety, sanitation, and temperature control guidelines.
Assists with receiving, rotating, and storing products in the Fallingwater Café using proper inventory practices.
Maintains Green Restaurant Association and Sustainable Pittsburgh Restaurant certifications and works to continually enhance sustainability of all operations.
Maintains the Fallingwater Cafe and surroundings in conditions that meet the highest standards and health code regulations.
Supports the Conservancy’s cost containment and fundraising efforts and needs, as applicable and directed by the Executive Chef.

Qualifications

- Minimum of two years food service management training or commensurate experience required.
- ServSafe Certified
- Prior experience working for a high-volume Cafe in an arts/culture, resort, hotel, catering or comparable setting is required.
- Prior supervisory experience is required. Must have the ability to assign duties, plan work schedules, provide or arrange for training, and supervise employees.
- Knowledge of supplies, equipment, and services necessary to run an efficient Café operation is preferred.
- Strong time management, attention to detail and consistency standards required.
- Knowledge of food safety, storage, sanitation practices, and government regulations preferred.
- Good interpersonal skills and ability to work well with managers and staff is essential.
- Knowledge of sustainable food practices is required.
- Proven skills as a strong team player with prior experience supervising employees and with professional kitchen organization is required.
- Must be able to work weekends, early mornings, and holidays. Be able to work overtime as necessary, and have flexibility with scheduling and hours.
- Proficiency with MS Office software and experience with POS systems required.
- Valid driver’s license required.
- To be able to complete all physical requirements of the job with or without a reasonable accommodation.
