Position Summary
The Equipment and Maintenance Technician is responsible for providing expert repair, installation, and preventative maintenance for coffee equipment across Merit Coffee café locations and customer sites. This role combines hands-on technical expertise with outstanding customer service and requires independence, flexibility, and strong problem-solving skills.
Key Responsibilities
Refurbish, clean, inspect, and perform preventative maintenance on coffee equipment including espresso machines, brewers, and grinders
Diagnose and repair equipment issues on-site and provide limited remote technical support via phone, email, or video
Coordinate with the Maintenance Repair & Operations Buyer to schedule monthly and annual preventative maintenance
Respond to café and customer service requests in a timely and professional manner
Accurately document all service activities using tracking software for compliance, billing, and warranty purposes
Follow company procedures for service tickets, warranty claims, and parts ordering
Assist with inventory management, including tracking parts usage and conducting periodic audits
Safely operate a company service van or box truck and comply with all driver requirements
Load and unload equipment, tools, and parts as needed
Participate in an on-call rotation, including nights and weekends, to support emergency service needs
Travel independently between multiple locations throughout the day
Perform occasional overnight travel (1–2 nights) to support installations, training, or special projects
Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Experience & Education
Minimum of two (2) years of experience in a service technician or equipment repair role
Experience in the Food & Beverage or coffee industry strongly preferred
Licenses & Certifications
Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
Technical & Professional Skills
Strong knowledge of electrical, plumbing, and mechanical systems related to equipment installation and repair
Comfortable using service ticketing systems, inventory tracking, and project management software
Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel
Excellent time management skills with flexibility for off-hours availability
Professional, reliable, and customer-focused demeanor
Ability to work independently and manage a dynamic daily schedule
Physical Requirements
Ability to kneel, bend, squat, reach, push, pull, and lift up to 50 pounds
Ability to stand for extended periods
Comfortable working on ladders, roofs, and elevated spaces
Able to work with moving mechanical parts, pressurized steam, heated surfaces, electrical equipment, and cleaning chemicals
Ability to work in tight or enclosed spaces and navigate narrow aisles
Must have close visual acuity for detailed mechanical work and safe equipment operation
Able to withstand exposure to outdoor weather conditions and frequent regional travel
Working Conditions
Work is frequently performed in active café environments during business hours, requiring coordination around baristas and customers. The role involves exposure to moving machinery, electrical components, heat, chemicals, and frequent travel between café and customer locations.
