Role Description The Lead Barista is a full-time, on-site role based in New York, NY. This role oversees daily café operations, prepares high-quality espresso and coffee beverages, and ensures consistent drink standards and presentation. The Lead Barista provides friendly, attentive customer service, supports and trains barista team members, and helps manage workflow during busy periods. Responsibilities include maintaining a clean and organized bar and seating area, monitoring inventory and restocking supplies, and adhering to food safety and cleanliness guidelines. The Lead Barista may also assist with opening and closing procedures, cash handling, and promoting 787 Coffee’s story and products to guests.
Qualifications
- Strong barista skills, including espresso extraction, milk steaming, and manual brewing techniques.
- Experience in customer service and hospitality, with the ability to create a welcoming, inclusive environment.
- Team leadership abilities, such as training staff, giving feedback, and coordinating daily tasks.
- Operational skills in cash handling, point-of-sale systems, and basic inventory management.
- Knowledge of specialty coffee, including sourcing, roasting, and flavor profiles, or a willingness to learn.
- Ability to stand for extended periods and lift moderate weights, following safety practices.
- Reliable, punctual, and able to work a flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays.
- Previous café or food service experience preferred; supervisory experience is an advantage.
