Moving north: Ferrero brings Nutella Cafe to Chicago

Nutella Cafe, owned by Ferrero, has reopened in Chicago after operating in New York in 2018. In Illinois, the cafe has undergone a complete interior redesign and an expanded menu.

Located at 189 North Michigan Avenue, the location is the only permanent cafe dedicated to the brand, featuring two distinct zones for merchandise retail, ordering, and dining to alter guest traffic flow.

The updated space incorporates architectural elements inspired by the Nutella jar, including a custom ordering station modeled after its silhouette, textured walls, and a swirling bronze mesh ceiling.

More digital-driven features were installed within the location, including a digital order-ahead feature for pickup orders and a digital waitlist system for table seating.

In addition to traditional menu items such as crepes and waffles, Nutella Cafe has expanded its menu with several new items.

The new offering includes Nutella tiramisu cups, mocha frappes, milkshakes, ice cream cones, and a new peanut spread add-on option, alongside gelato flavors provided by Ferrero partner Vero Gelato.

The location will offer retail merchandise such as customized product jars, tumblers, keychains, and mini totes.

“Chicago is home to something truly unique, the world’s only permanent Nutella Cafe, and we could not be more honored to welcome guests back,” said Richard Fossali, VP and GM at Fannie May and Nutella Cafe.

“While the space has been completely reimagined, it still delivers everything fans love about the cafe. To bring that experience back to Michigan Avenue is a proud moment for everyone at Ferrero.”

The renovation precedes the establishment’s 10th anniversary, which takes place in 2027.
