POSITION MISSION

The Senior Manager, Strategy & Market Planning plays a critical role in shaping how and where Bagel Brands grows by leading market planning, location strategy, and development analytics across the portfolio. This role combines consumer, demographic, competitive, mobility, real estate, and bakery performance data to identify growth opportunities, inform development decisions, and optimize the performance of the existing bakery portfolio.

Serving as a strategic thought partner to Development leadership and cross-functional teams, the Senior Manager translates complex data into clear, actionable recommendations that guide market prioritization, new bakery development, trade area strategy, site selection, relocations, remodels, closures, conversions, and portfolio optimization. In alignment with Bagel Brands' Mission, Vision, and Values, this role brings curiosity, objective analysis, strong business judgment, and an ownership mindset to decisions that support profitable and sustainable growth.

Compensation

  • Base Annual Salary: $145,000 to $160,000
  • Targeted Annual Bonus: 15%
  • Long Term Incentive (LTI): $20,000

Responsibilities Include, But Are Not Limited To

Market Planning & Growth Strategy

  • Develop and maintain strategic market plans that identify where, when, and how Bagel Brands should grow across new and existing markets.
  • Evaluate market potential and development opportunities to establish market priorities and support long-term growth planning.
  • Develop an independent, fact-based perspective on market opportunities and translate findings into actionable recommendations for Development leadership.
  • Partner with Development and cross-functional leaders to align market planning strategies with broader business objectives and investment priorities.

Market & Location Analytics

  • Leverage demographic, consumer, competitive, mobility, GIS, real estate, and bakery performance data to identify whitespace, market potential, trade areas, and development priorities.
  • Analyze market and trade area dynamics to identify opportunities and risks associated with potential development decisions.
  • Develop and continuously refine analytical approaches that improve understanding of location performance and market opportunity.
  • Integrate multiple data sources to provide a comprehensive view of markets, trade areas, and portfolio performance.

Site Selection & Development Forecasting

  • Partner with Real Estate to evaluate prospective locations, including trade area quality, site characteristics, sales potential, cannibalization, and overall portfolio impact.
  • Develop and apply forecasting methodologies to support new bakery sales projections and investment decisions.
  • Provide analytical support and recommendations throughout the site-selection process.
  • Participate in market tours and field validation to complement analytical findings with local market and site observations.

Portfolio Optimization

  • Analyze existing bakery performance, market dynamics, and portfolio positioning to identify opportunities for relocations, remodels, closures, conversions, and other asset optimization strategies.
  • Evaluate the potential financial and portfolio impact of proposed optimization decisions.
  • Partner with Development, Finance, Operations, and other stakeholders to support fact-based portfolio investment decisions.

Performance & Predictive Analytics

  • Conduct post-opening analyses to evaluate actual performance against forecasts and identify opportunities to improve future development decisions.
  • Analyze portfolio and location performance to continuously improve sales forecasting, cannibalization modeling, site-selection criteria, and other location-performance methodologies.
  • Identify trends and insights that improve the accuracy and consistency of market planning and development decisions.
  • Establish feedback loops that incorporate actual bakery performance into future market and site-selection strategies.

Tools, Reporting & Capabilities

  • Develop and continuously improve market-planning tools, dashboards, data sources, models, and analytical capabilities.
  • Establish consistent methodologies and frameworks that enable faster, more objective, and more consistent development decision-making.
  • Translate complex analyses into clear presentations, recommendations, and decision-support materials for Development leadership and cross-functional stakeholders.

Cross-Functional Partnership

  • Collaborate closely with Real Estate, Finance, Operations, Marketing, Franchise Development, and other partners to align market strategy with broader business objectives.
  • Build credibility and influence across teams by providing objective, data-driven insights and recommendations.
  • Effectively challenge assumptions and bring alternative perspectives to development decisions while building alignment around recommended actions.

Required

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Real Estate, Economics, Geography, Urban Planning, Analytics, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Five or more years of experience in market planning, real estate strategy, site selection, development strategy, location analytics, or a related analytical field.
  • Experience within a multi-unit restaurant, retail, consumer, or franchise business.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop market strategies and translate complex data into clear, actionable business recommendations.
  • Experience with GIS or location intelligence platforms and demographic, mobility, consumer, and competitive datasets.
  • Experience with sales forecasting, cannibalization modeling, predictive analytics, or comparable location-performance methodologies.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Strong strategic thinking, analytical, and problem-solving capabilities with the ability to develop an independent, fact-based point of view.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to simplify complex analyses and influence stakeholders at multiple levels.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, growth-oriented environment.
  • Ability to collaborate and influence effectively across functions without direct authority.
  • Ability to travel based on business needs, including market tours and field validation.

Preferred

  • Advanced degree in Business, Finance, Real Estate, Analytics, or a related field.
  • Experience with business intelligence and data visualization tools.
  • Experience supporting restaurant or retail development, portfolio optimization, or market expansion strategies.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

This position primarily operates in an office environment and requires the ability to sit, stand, and use a computer for extended periods of time. The role requires periodic travel for market tours, bakery visits, site evaluations, and field validation, which may involve walking sites and navigating retail or development environments.
