Job Summary
The Starbucks Barista (LS Operator) is a full-time, customer-focused position responsible for delivering high-quality beverages, food, and service while supporting daily operations at the Campus Store and Marriott Library Starbucks locations. This position works in accordance with Starbucks licensed-store standards and University of Utah Campus Store policies and procedures.
In addition to performing regular barista responsibilities, this position serves as a Shift Lead, providing day-to-day leadership during assigned shifts. The Shift Lead helps coordinate workflow, deploy team members based on business needs, coach and support baristas, maintain Starbucks operational and service standards, and address customer and operational issues as they arise. This position leads through active participation on the floor and is expected to work alongside baristas while helping ensure an efficient, organized, and positive customer and employee experience.

Responsibilities
Minimum Qualifications
Five years of experience in a related field, with two of those years working as a supervisor, or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience); knowledge of related trade or department specific equipment, systems and procedures. Demonstrated organizational, human relations and effective communication skills are also required.

Responsibilities
- Lead assigned shifts and coordinate daily café operations, including opening, peak business periods, transitions, and closing activities.
- Provide direction, coaching, and support to baristas throughout the shift while modeling Starbucks service, beverage, food, and operational standards.
- Deploy team members and adjust work assignments based on customer traffic, business needs, breaks, and staffing levels.
- Maintain awareness of café operations and proactively identify and resolve workflow, customer service, cleanliness, product availability, and staffing concerns.
- Create a positive customer experience by modeling welcoming, efficient, and professional service and supporting baristas in resolving customer concerns.
- Prepare and serve Starbucks beverages and food according to established recipes, quality standards, and presentation requirements.
- Support the training and development of new and existing baristas by reinforcing procedures, service expectations, and Starbucks standards.
- Ensure required opening, closing, cash-handling, food-safety, sanitation, and operational procedures are completed accurately.
- Monitor product and supply levels during assigned shifts and communicate inventory or ordering needs to management.
- Receive, organize, rotate, and maintain café inventory according to established procedures.
- Maintain a clean, safe, organized, and welcoming café environment, including customer areas, beverage stations, food preparation areas, and back-of-house spaces.
- Operate POS systems, process transactions accurately, and follow established cash-handling procedures.
- Support shift coverage and communicate staffing or operational concerns to management as needed.
- Help ensure compliance with Starbucks licensed-store requirements, University policies, and applicable health and food-safety regulations.
- Support operations at both the Campus Store and Marriott Library Starbucks locations based on business needs.
- Perform other related duties as assigned in support of Starbucks and Campus Store operations.

- Previous experience providing shift leadership, training, or direction to team members preferred.

- Ability to provide direction and feedback to team members while maintaining a positive and collaborative work environment.
- Ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities and make effective decisions in a fast-paced environment.
- Dependable, punctual, and able to work independently with limited supervision.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and other high-volume periods as needed.
- Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 30 pounds.
